It is the first time a ticket sold in Tennessee hit the Mega Millions jackpot since the state began participating in the multi-state game in January 2010. Gerlock says the winner has 180 days to come forward. If the player opts out of the lump-sum payment, the cash value of the $61 million jackpot would be $32.1 million.
The last multi-state game jackpot winner in Tennessee was a family from South Pittsburgh who won a Powerball jackpot of $25.5 million in March 2005.
There was also one Match 5 winner in Friday’s draw, and because that ticket included the optional Megaplier purchase for an additional $1, it is worth a whopping $5 million instead of the standard $1 million. It was sold in Pennsylvania. This is the second time Mega Millions has had a $5 million second prize winner since the game was relaunched in October; the first was in Texas.
