A retired school principal is the sole winner of the $326 million Mega Millions jackpot drawn on Nov. 4,with matches 5 correct balls plus 1 Mega Ball, the biggest prize in New York Lottery history, officials announced Monday.Harold Diamond, 80, of the Sullivan County town of Wurtsboro, retired as principal of George L. Cook Elementary School in Monticello in 1995, said that he bought the ticket had forgotten about the ticket he bought on a whim at a highway service center at the Valero on Route 302 in Middletown, and shoved into his pocket until the day after the Nov. 4 drawing, when he heard where the winning numbers were sold, the New York Lottery said in a statement.
The New York Lottery’s Yolanda Vega presented a giant ceremonial check to Diamond on Monday. He has chosen to take the cash value of the annuitized prize, earning him a single lump sum payment totaling $197,456,087. His net check will total $130,676,438 after required withholdings.. Diamond says his plans for the money include helping family and “giving back to the local community”. He said he owes his good fortune to his wife, Carol, a retired Goshen High School math teacher
